Best Time to Visit St. Barth: A Month-by-Month Guide
The same villa can cost three times more at Christmas than in June, and the best month of the year is the one nobody talks about.

Before you book a villa in St. Barthélemy, factor in this: the same property can cost three times more during the Christmas weeks than in June, half the restaurants close in October, and the best month of the year is one nobody mentions in glossy magazines. After four decades on the island, our team has watched enough seasons cycle through to share an honest take on when to actually come.
Peak season: January through March
This is the version of St. Barth you have seen in magazines. The trade winds keep humidity low, the sea sits at a perfect 26°C, and Gustavia harbor fills with superyachts. Restaurants like Bonito, Bagatelle and L'Isola are booked weeks ahead. Villa availability tightens, and so do rates — expect 30 to 50% above shoulder season. The vibe is high-energy, social, polished. Book six to nine months out for the best inventory.
The two highest-priced weeks of the entire year are Christmas (Dec 20–26) and New Year (Dec 27–Jan 5). Top villas are typically reserved twelve months ahead. If you are targeting a specific property for the holidays, plan early.
April and November: the quiet sweet spots
Locals quietly point to these two months when asked their honest answer. April keeps high-season weather but loses the crowds after the first week. Rates drop 20 to 35% versus February. The island exhales. November feels equally fresh — villas reopen with new paint and staff after the October closure, the trade winds return, and tariffs stay at low-season levels until December 20.
For repeat visitors and honeymooners who value space over spectacle, these are the months we recommend without hesitation.
Low season: warm, calm, and excellent value
Mid-May through early August offers genuine value. Villa rates drop 40 to 55%, beaches feel like yours, and the sea is at its warmest. The trade-off is real: many flagship restaurants close from mid-May to late October, so check what is open before you book. Two events anchor the summer calendar:
- St. Barth Summer Sessions (July) — international DJs perform at the open-air arena above Anse des Cayes.
- Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy (August 24) — the most authentic island day of the year, with regattas, the patron saint mass and free public meals in Gustavia.
French families take their two-week August holiday here, so expect a more European, family-oriented crowd than in winter.
What to avoid, and when to book
September and October are the only months we honestly recommend against. They mark peak hurricane risk in the Northern Caribbean, most villas and many restaurants close for renovations, and flights become unreliable. If a date in this window is non-negotiable, work with us and budget for full travel insurance.
Here is our cheat sheet for booking lead times:
- Christmas and New Year — 10 to 12 months ahead.
- January through March — 6 to 9 months.
- April or early December — 3 to 5 months.
- May through November (excluding September and October) — 2 to 4 months, often last-minute.
If you tell us your travel window and party size, we will come back with the villas open during your stay, their real rates, and an honest take on what is around you.
